I’m a golf gear junkie, and so is everyone who writes for this site.
We love testing the latest clubs and equipment. When we write reviews, we talk to you like you’re a buddy asking for honest advice…because that’s exactly how we see our readers.
Golf costs enough money as it is, and we want every dollar you spend to matter. That’s why we only recommend stuff we’ve actually tested and would buy ourselves.
We get products sent from manufacturers, but we buy way more than we get for free.
- We’d rather blow our own cash on a dud so you don’t have to.
Result: You’ll only see gear on this site that actually performs.
We’re rolling out a new rating system to make things clearer. Here’s how it works.
How We Rate Golf Products at Golfer Geeks (Updated April 2025)
We want to give you clear, consistent reviews you can actually use when shopping.
So we’re standardizing how we test everything. Not easy since a lot of this comes down to personal preference.
Even with hard numbers like distance and launch angle, my swing changes day to day. But I can get a solid feel for how different clubs stack up against each other.
Our rating system lets you compare clubs across brands using both data and real-world testing.
We score every club on a 0-5 scale across six key areas:
- Bag Appeal
- Sound & Feel
- Distance
- Forgiveness
- Ball Flight
- Wallet Damage
| Category | What It Measures |
|---|---|
| Bag Appeal | How good does the club look at address and in your bag? Clean, classic, modern, confidence-inspiring? |
| Sound & Feel | Sound & feel at impact. Is it buttery, solid, muted, crisp, or clicky? How does it feel when you pure it — or don’t? |
| Distance | Distance potential. Does it bomb the ball consistently or leave you clubbing up? |
| Forgiveness | Forgiveness on off-center hits. Does it keep your mishits playable? How much distance loss. How is launch, trajectory, or shot shape effected. |
| Ball Flight | Ball flight characteristics: launch, trajectory, and ability to shape & flight shots. |
| Wallet Damage | Is the club worth the investment? How does it compare to the competition. |

We do:
Here’s what we look for before featuring any product on the site.
Only review legitimate products
There’s no shortage of gimmicky training aids and “breakthrough” clubs hitting the market constantly. You won’t find that junk here.
Dig deep into user reviews
After we test products ourselves.
Our hands-on testing comes first, but we want to know if we missed something or if there’s a pattern of complaints we should address.
Call out marketing BS
We’ve all seen the hype around the “revolutionary” training aid that’ll fix your swing in three swings. We don’t believe it and we won’t push it.
Find the best places to buy
Remember: We buy this stuff too.
- We give you multiple buying options when it makes sense.
- We balance getting you the best price with supporting good retailers.
- Some products are cheaper on Amazon.
- Some products – especially clubs and serious training aids – are better bought direct from manufacturers or reputable golf retailers.
We don’t:
Things you’ll NEVER see on this site.
Take sponsorship money
We see our readers as people we’re looking out for. Our rankings and reviews reflect what we actually think based on our testing and research.
Post anything without thorough testing
Every article goes through serious research and testing. We don’t make recommendations lightly. If you read it here, you can trust we’ve done the work.
